(alphabetical value G)

All of the Runes have an image, or symbol, that sets the train of recollection, ideology, and meaning in motion. This image isn't the 'meaning' of the rune, it is the picture that sparks off of the meaning and gives it form and reality.

The prompt-symbol for Gebo is gift. For the Norse, a gift was not just an object that is given away, but a part of a complex web of giving and receiving in which the gift was more important as an acknowledgment of responsibility and mutual feeling than as an object. So Gebo can more rightly be called 'exchange' rather than 'gift'. This is the only rune still in common use. At the end of a note, it means 'a kiss'. A kiss is a good example of an exchange between connected people that is a symbol of and a strengthening of the bond between them, and exemplifies Gebo.
