(alphabetical value EI)
All of the Runes have an image, or symbol, that sets the train of recollection, ideology, and meaning in motion. This image isn't the 'meaning' of the rune, it is the picture that sparks off of the meaning and gives it form and reality. The prompt-symbol for Eoh is the Yew tree. In the same way that Elhaz is protection, Eoh is defense. It warns that there is that which threatens us, but reminds us that we have weapons that we can bring to bear on those threats. Yew is also the tree of Thüle, the point we cannot go beyond but must turn back from. At this dangerous time, life and death are back to back—we turn over death and re-birth is on the other side. Not only is the Yew an evergreen, but individual trees can live for hundreds of years; these attributes give yew the symbology of re-birth, renewal, and reincarnation. |
